Wishing our dear friends a very happy 1 year Anniversary
Shannon and Nathanael Clanton, the beautiful beams of light that they are, exchanged their vows and "put a ring on it" a year ago today. Their love is inspiring. Their big day was full of peonies, lush garden roses, and pretty pink ranunculus. We adored there style and the whole vibe of the day - they had a romantic eclectic theme going that was very casual but also elegant. We decided to interview the couple and find out how their first year of married life has been.
Describe your venue, and the vibe of your gathering, feel free to reminisce on the glorious day you were wed:
Nathanael: Well as we write this, we are at one year minus a day from the wedding day, so it's definitely bringing back memories! The venue was magical; bathed in golden sunlight, green everywhere, there were HORSES (my favorite animal!), and the decorations turned out just awesome. I still remember peeking out the window from the room, watching all the guests looking around as they arrived. Man, what a beautiful day!
What was your favorite part of your big day?
Shannon: One of my favorite parts of the wedding was probably directly after the kiss, in full giddiness-overload, Nathanael and I nearly squeal as he whisper-shouts to me "We're MARRIED!!" 😂😁My response was a silent "Eeeeee!" mixed in with a giggle that was about to bust out of it's own seams. :)
Nathanael: My favorite part of the wedding day... There's a couple big ones: Seeing everything finally put together after months of planning, getting to see Shannon for the "first look", singing the rest of "Take On Me" at the top of our lungs with the whole crowd when the music went out for a minute... But I got chills when Shannon came walking down the aisle to a song our friend Phil composed and performed for that moment. It felt like we were living a movie!
Tell us about the best thing you have experienced together as a married couple.
Shannon: I'd say the best thing we've been experiencing as a married couple is never being alone. We both have a teammate in life now, one to laugh with, to cry with, one to push through challenges with, one to fall asleep next to and to wake up next to... One to do LIFE with. It is the fullness of truly having a best friend. :)
Were there many adjustments you had to make in the new adventure of "married life"? If so what were they? How do you overcome the challenges?
Nathanael: Some of the biggest adjustments for me have been connected to communication and being in sync. I've put a lot of work into learning how to be in tune with Shannon's feelings, energy, thoughts, and needs. We decided that as long as we care for the other, and serve them selflessly, our own needs will always be met in return. And I've been committed to learning and growing in that each day (even the times when I'm not quite getting it! lol). We've heard a lot of people say, "Marriage is hard work", assuming that fighting is a prerequisite and that it's hard because you're dealing with another person; but we believe we have to work hard on ourselves, and make the tough decisions based on, "Is this out of Love?", and that keeps our priorities straight.
If someone wrote a book about your life together right now what would it be titled?
Nathanael: "Our Voyage". It's become a theme for us since early on in our relationship that this whole thing is an adventure that we're on together. Every twist & turn, unexpected challenge, triumph, and season, are all chapters of that story. And having that perspective helps us to always hope and have joy.
Shannon: If someone wrote a book about us, it would probably be called something like "The Endless Pursuit"... Because we have made it our life goal to never stop pursuing each other, chasing each other, dating each other... Not only that, but to also never stop pursuing God together, as He too, pursues us with His unfailing love. We pray that His pursuit can always be reflected in our marriage.
What is one (or a few, knowing you guys) quirky way that you two spend quality time together?
Shannon: We love to walk and talk for hours, stroll through downtown and all the shops, play board games (specifically Dutch Blitz- we're hooked on this game!!), watch movies on $5 movie-Tuesday's, either drive around fancy neighborhoods or walk around fancy stores and "dream-build" (which is basically dreaming of the future together). We also love to bake goodies together!
Nathanael: I'm a huge movie fan and Shannon totally indulges that because she loves movies too, so we find fun ways to turn it into a date. We've built forts in our place and watched movies in there as opposed to sitting on the couch like normal. You've gotta shake things up a bit, y'kno? Also, we like to call any activity we do together "A Date", because it reminds us that we are having a total blast!
