When we get the chance to make something beautiful in a styled shoot we are always super excited.
But when it's a workshop shot by Monique Serra Photography and a band of photographers learning her style, we are beyond thrilled. And then when we realize it's also going to be styled by Manda with Sue Blue, we are like falling out of our chairs. And then you throw in the freakin beautiful dress from a & bé bridal, out of this world menus by Old City Mail Room and the gorgeous Alex Radekin doing hair + makeup and modeling? How does this get any better?! I’ll tell you: creative control!
Monique and Manda basically told us the color scheme of emerald, mauve, and blush and told us to run with it! We knew the style was kind of moody so we chose a lot of dark tones using dahlia, blackberries, black fall foliage to creat sort of a shadow effect and then threw in some contrast with the light and bright garden roses, Chinese anemone, local peachy lisianthus and white majolicas. Now my favorite colors to bring into a shoot like this are those neutral mauvey cappuccino tones. My absolute favorite rose right now is the koko loco, but closely followed by the café latte and cappuccino.
Now, making this huge mother of a centerpiece was definitely one of my favorite moments of the summer.
I was 9 months pregnant (literally gave birth to my daughter 3 days later) so I hold this memory so dear. The forecast was 100% chance of rain at the coast with 20-30 mile per hour winds and 1-2 inches of rain projected. So we were literally just praying towards the end there.
We placed the tablescape arrangement in a black slate vessel. We tied off the wild and romantic bouquet with dusty rose and champagne ribbons. And we sent them off with Manda for a day at the beach. And as you can see, despite the wind and rain, it turned out pretty amazing!
