Hey guys! We are Josie + Tay and we are @goodseedfloral. We are sooooo excited to be taking over Mayesh’s Instagram! We are a full-service wedding floral design studio located in Oregon + Austin Texas. ⠀ :: Our obsession with flowers started in college when we got to walk with each other through our own weddings and found that designing with flowers was something that really spoke to both of us. Honestly, one thing led to another, and here we are, designing weddings for some of the most amazing brides. We love this industry, we love getting to connect with other florists, and we love the fulfillment it brings us both. ⠀ ::⠀ Today, we’re going to share with you some of our FAVORITE stories, business advice + inspiration! Hang with us! // Photo: @emilyvandeheyphotography // Shootout: @styledyou_ // Style and Design: @maeandco_creative // Venue: @acehotelportland // Rentals: @somethingborrowed_pdx⠀
Hey loves! Us again + we wanted to give you a little more about our style and what we love to create! Our floral arrangements are a mix of romantic and wild. We create natural, free flowing designs that incorporate unexpected pops of texture and color but balance with lush, petal filled floral. We don’t like to force the flowers to do anything they don’t want to do, so we work with what we have to create something natural and organic- reflective of what we see around us. Our goal with each arrangement we make is to capture the unique vision of our client and create a reflection of the occasion that they can remember for a lifetime. // Photo: @oliviastrohmphoto // Shootout: @styledyou_ // Stylist: @maeandco_creative // Model: @reedalyson // MUAH: @makeupbywhit // Dress: @clairelafaye
So, what inspires us about floral design + being in the wedding industry other than the amazing people we get to work with? Our love of the beauty of marriage and being able to capture that in our designs. We 100% believe that flowers bring a unique presence to any space. The fact that they are alive is special. People will say they don’t want to invest much in flowers because they just die, but we would say that’s what makes them magic! Their beauty is fleeting but has an amazing impact in spite of (or because of) that. The memories you have of your wedding day will be more special because of them. Okay, we’ll stop gushing now…you get it. We’re obsessed. // Photo: @karraleighphoto // Dress: @theenglishdept // Model: @megan.ell
Back when we first started @goodseedfloral, we were TERRIFIED of leaving our day jobs. There were so many questions about financial stability, the risks involved, how we would get clients, who we were as a brand…it’s legit scary to take that leap. We were so inspired by a recent student we had who is taking the leap to learn more about flowers + the wedding industry. We love stories like hers because its familiar to us- and likely familiar to you too! We took a few years to transition out of working other jobs to doing Good Seed full time, but seriously. If we can do it, anyone can!! If you’re on the fence about pursuing something you are passionate about, just do it. You don’t have to dive in the deep end head first, but honor that passion by pursuing it even in little ways. Trust that you have it for a reason + see where it goes. And as we’ve said a MILLION times already…find other people who love the same things you do. Find a community to create with- it will make everything better. // Photo: @laurennicolephoto_ // Student: @jade.freeman⠀ ..⠀ ..⠀ ..⠀ #goodseedfloral #floralworkshop #portlandflorist #austinflorist #floraldesign #mayeshtakeover
Guys, thank you so much for following along with us today! We LOVE our tight-knit floral community and we LOVE being able to spend time with y’all! Thanks for inspiring us, thanks for cheering us on and thank you so much for putting the beauty inside you for the world to see. You’re all so gifted and we’d love to spend more time with you over at @goodsedfloral!⠀ See you soon! // Photo: @moniqueserraphotography // Styling: @oliveandrust.co // Venue: @jupiterhotel // Rentals: @classicvintagerentals
We’re back from a long hiatus of Instagram takeovers with the babes of @goodseedfloral in Portland, OR! Tune in tomorrow to be inspired by these friends turned business partners as they share their story, love of flowers and their involvement in the Portland flower community. When we started @goodseedfloral 6 years ago, Tay + I both worked multiple part time jobs to fund our new-found love of floral design. Honestly, it completely consumed us. We LOVED it. It made us feel alive. The problem we kept running into, however, was that we didn’t have anyone to teach us how to do it! Guys, we made A LOT of mistakes. It was bad. I mean, leaving the bridal bouquet on the porch *IN THE SUN* bad. We had to learn everything the hard way. It was an expensive, stressful and sometimes defeating process, but the more we talked to other florists, we started to realize that this happens to everyone. This is when we fell in love with teaching what we’ve learned so far.⠀ :: We know the sinking feeling you get when you realize you’re losing $40 per centerpiece because pricing is the worst, or the heart-stopping moment when the wind shatters your gorgeous aisle arrangement on the pavement 5 minutes before the ceremony, or the deer-in-the-headlights look you get when you forgot the boutonnieres at the house. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY. We offer workshops that help you avoid our mistakes and make a name for yourself as an industry professional right away. Check out our flagship workshop- Business and Blooms. We have one coming up in Austin Texas at a Bali-inspired retreat that is going to be MAGICAL. If a private workshop for just yourself is more your style, we offer those too! And even if we’re not the right one for you, we 1000% recommend finding a workshop that does work for you! They are amazing ways to invest in yourself + your business. // Photo: @laurennicolephoto_ ⠀
One of our favorite things about being in the wedding industry where we are is the amazing creative floral community we get to be a part of. This magical scene is from the last @floral_gathering that we host with @brierandivy and it was seriously the best day. Taking time to create for yourself as an artist is SO important. It’s hard to make time for that in a busy wedding schedule, but it allows time to reflect, find joy, find inspiration and find encouragement. A lesson we’re learning this year is that you can’t give from a place that’s empty + giving yourself space to fill yourself creatively is one of the best things you can do! // Photo: @bethanysmallphot // Venue: @tendue.co // Place Cards + Menus: @seekpaperco // Catering: @chefstablecateringpdx
Another way we love to work with the amazing community around us is to do styled shoots! We’ve found that they are soooo valuable in getting good content, feeling inspired and getting to know the best people. This photo is from a styled shoot out we did flowers for back in June with @styledyou_. It was such a magical day!! // Photo: @goinghome.co // Styling: @maeandco_creative // Shootout: @styledyou_ // Dress: @clairlafaye // Muah: @makeupbywhit // Model: @reedalyson // Rentals: @somethingborrowed ⠀ ..⠀ ..⠀ ..⠀ #goodseedfloral #florist #communityovercompetition #mayeshtakeover⠀
